When shopping during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Murfreesboro Police asked motorists to be especially mindful of children.
Parents should make sure they closely watch their children in parking lots, said Maj. Clyde Adkison. Children are thinking about Santa Claus and not safety.
“We certainly don’t want children run over,” Adkison said. Shoppers should follow some crime prevention tips:
• Don’t flash your cash.
• Carry only one credit card instead of several.
• Hide packages in the trunk before driving to the next store. If you don’t have a trunk, hide packages under a blanket.
• Place valuables such as radar detectors or GPS devices in the truck or hide it in the car.
“Most car burglaries and thefts are crimes of opportunity,” Adkison said, adding radar detectors and GPS’s are the most common items stolen in the burglaries.
Murfreesboro Police will patrol streets and shopping areas to keep people safe. |
