Murfreesboro planners will hold a public meeting to gather public input on possible changes to the zoning ordinance or medical zoning districts in the area around the existing Middle Tennessee Medical Center campus.
The meeting will be held March 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Patterson Park Community Center Meeting Room A.
Information will be available for discussion about provisions in the city’s zoning ordinance that regulate the medical and other office districts and what properties are included in the medical districts.
Those who attend will be invited to share their ideas and will have the opportunity to provide comments to the planning staff.
Construction on the new MTMC hospital is moving forward and substantial completion is expected in mid-June of 2010. MTMC has targeted Oct. 2 for moving patients.
As construction progresses, the city’s planning staff is receiving numerous inquiries regarding zoning of existing medical offices and the possibility that these offices can be used for uses not currently allowed in the medical zones. The staff is also receiving inquiries from area residents concerned about how the medical office areas around MTMC can be re-used.
This past January, the Planning Staff brought to Murfreesboro Planning Commission a report regarding medical zones in the city. After reviewing the report, the commission requested that the Planning Staff continue to study the area and the zoning ordinance with an expectation there may be recommendations for changes to either the zoning ordinance or to how land in the area is zoned. In order to begin that process, staff is having the neighborhood meeting and inviting public participation in the early stages of the process.
Everyone with an interest in this zoning matter is invited to attend the meeting to view the exhibits and discuss with staff members their thoughts about the zoning uses of the area and what types of changes would be acceptable.
