The Middle Tennessee athletic department held its annual Pink Zone women's basketball game Sunday and for the third-straight year, the Blue Raiders wore special-designed pink uniforms. The uniforms were auctioned off following the conclusion of the contest, raising a school-record $23,597.05 to benefit breast cancer awareness.

"The Middle Tennessee athletic department is pleased to use athletics as an effective platform for the greater good of the community. The annual game and auction are wonderful examples of athletics and women's basketball helping our local community," Blue Raider Director of Athletics Chris Massaro said. "I would like to thank our corporate partner, Middle Tennessee Medical Center, along with our coaches, players, fans and staff for a tremendous afternoon."

The proceeds from the auction benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and the Center for Breast Health at Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC). The auction began with a $200 purchase for head coach Rick Insell's necktie he wore during the game.

Then, one by one, the player jerseys were up for bid. A total of $10,800 will be donated to the Center for Breast Health at MTMC, while the remaining $10,350 will be presented to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

Included in the total was $2,247.05 raised on the sale of pink t-shirts, which were available for a $5 minimum donation at the entrances to Murphy Center. The proceeds from the t-shirt sales all went to the Center for Breast Health at MTMC.

The Blue Raiders capped the memorable afternoon with a 100-78 victory over South Alabama on Senior Day. Numerous team and individual records were set or broken during the game, as the Murphy Center crowd witnessed the final home contest for five seniors.

Middle Tennessee will return to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to Miami, Fla., to face FIU.
