The Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association will honor Middle Tennessee head baseball coach Steve Peterson as the top college baseball coach in the state of Tennessee at the Awards Luncheon on Saturday afternoon.

The Awards Luncheon is in conjunction with the annual TBCA Clinic which will be held Jan. 15-17 this year.

The TBCA named Peterson the top college baseball coach in the state after guiding Middle Tennessee to a 44-18 overall record in 2009. The Blue Raiders won the Sun Belt regular season and tournament titles while breaking a number of records, including wins in a season, and making its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Last weekend Peterson was honored at the annual Hall of Fame and Coach of the Year banquet which was held in conjunction with the ABCA's annual convention as the South Central Region Coach of the Year. It was the first time Peterson has received ABCA Region Coach of the Year honors during his 22-year tenure.

Peterson was inducted into the TBCA Hall of Fame in 2007 and has been a longtime member of the organization. Peterson has been named league Coach of the Year three times while winning 11 conference regular season titles, nine conference tournament championships and appearing in nine NCAA Regionals.

Middle Tennessee will open the 2010 season on Friday, Feb. 20 in a three-game series with Memphis at Memphis, Tenn.
