Pedestrian struck by MPD vehicle in stable condition

A pedestrian who was struck by a Murfreesboro Police car on Wednesday night on Old Fort Parkway is currently in stable condition.

The accident occurred on Old Fort Parkway in front of the Target store around 10 p.m.. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the case because a city police officer was involved in the incident.

MPD Officer Darrlyn Sanders, 26, was driving the patrol car when he hit Virginia Bissinger, 54, who was crossing the street in an area that was not well lit. The pedestrian was also crossing a four lane divided highway (State Route 96) where no crosswalk is present.

The preliminary Highway Patrol report indicates that Bissinger stepped into the direct path of Officer Sanders Crown Vic. Paramedics arrived on the scene within minutes and Bessinger was transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville with serious injuries.
