Pedestrian hurt when struck by truck outside bar

TMP Reports

Pedestrian Tonya Linder remembered seeing headlights just before a white dually truck her hit at midnight Sunday outside an Old Woodbury Highway bar, a sheriff’s deputy reported Tuesday.

After the crash, Linder remembered “hearing someone get over her and start laughing,” Deputy Shane Vaughn reported.

Linder of Mitchell Avenue in Smyrna suffered injuries in the crash outside The Spot bar on 4425 Old Woodbury Highway, the deputy reported. She was treated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Vaughn charged suspect James F. Mason, 25, of 1073 Cranor Road with aggravated assault of Linder and domestic assault of his girlfriend, Brandi Yglesias of Cranor Road.

Several witnesses at the bar told Vaughn Mason got into an argument with Yglesias inside the bar, then went outside. One witness reported they got into the truck where she accused Mason of assaulting Yglesias.

“Everyone inside the bar ran outside and tried to get Mason to stop,” Vaughn reported.

The bar patrons rescued Yglesias, the deputy reported. Witness David Spence tried to get Mason out of the truck but he drove away, dragging Spence with him until Spence let go. Mason returned later when Linder was walking across the parking lot.

“Mason struck Mrs. Linder with his vehicle and knocked her to the ground,” Vaughn reported.

Yglesias suffered a bruise to her right eye, the deputy reported. She could not remember many details about their argument.

Deputy Larry McMahan located Mason later at his home and took him into custody for aggravated assault of Linder and domestic assault of Yglesias. He was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing was set May 7 in General Sessions Court.
