A pedestrian died Sunday after being struck by a driver last Thursday in his yard, authorities said.

Pedestrian Lawrence "Larry" Davis, 69, of Lakeshore Drive was standing in his yard when driver Jimmy Goodwin, 44, of Diana Street left the road, traveled through his yard and struck him, Murfreesboro Police spokesman Kyle Evans said.

Davis was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Center spokeswoman Ashley Culver reported Davis died about 10 p.m. Sunday.

Evans reported Goodwin’s vehicle traveled through a brick wall on the side of a house on Lakeshore Drive, stopping inside the home. No one was injured inside the home.

Goodwin was treated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation by the Fatal Accident Crash Team.

Davis was the 13th traffic fatality this year in Rutherford County.

OMG! He was in his front yard. What the?

standing in your yard doesn't exactly qualify you as being a "pedestrian", does it? Perhaps "By stander" would have been more appropriate, as "pedestrian" implies movement, and the description in the story is "...was standing in his yard..."

just sayin', won't be too many Pulitzer's awarded at the Post...

devolver, while your comment may have merit, that is not what should be focused on in this story.

Who would think when they got up one morning and decided to take a stroll around their own yard that they would be killed? How sad, my heart goes out to the family.

Shame on you--devolver. A man lost his life and this is your comment. I love the Post and think they do a great job. In the dictionaries I checked, pedestrian means someone "on foot" so unless he was lying or sitting in his yard it is correct.

I agree with justdance - this is extemely sad and my thoughts and prayers go out to this gentleman's family.
