Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) swept several award categories during a recent convention of the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association (TRPA) in Kingsport.

MPRD won awards for best Web site marketing campaign in the state; the Four Star Award for Marketing; the Special Events, Arts and Marketing Award

MPRD spokeswoman Jeni Brinkman also won an appreciation award for her time, dedication and leadership to the Ethnic Minority Interest Section.

The Greenways and Wetlands department won the Resource Management Award for Excellence for its Wandering Waters Camp, recognized as the best Environmental Program in the state.

Marlane Sewell, program coordinator, won the Maynard Glenn Award given for planning, conducting and being responsible for the most outstanding recreation program of the year.

Patterson Park Community Center won the Donald H. Stanton Award for the fourth year for the best overall community center program in the state.

Three Special Events – The Boro’ Blues Fest, Arts in the Park and the Sunshine Players’ production of “Snow White” for best theatre program – won Arts and Marketing awards.

Lanny Goodwin, director of Parks and Recreation, was presented The President’s Cup in the 100,000 and over population category for reflecting the most professional standards set by TRPA for contributions made to the State and the National Association for Recreation and Parks (NRPA).

Dave Davis, co-founder of Life Enrichment and Recreation Network (L.E.A.R.N.); won the Volunteer Service Award for his overwhelming commitment to special needs citizens in Murfreesboro.
