Parents arrested at drunken graduation party | Crime, RCSO

James and Jan Randolph
A Guinevere Court couple faces criminal charges after throwing a high school graduation party at which deputies found more than three dozen intoxicated graduates and younger teens early Sunday morning.

James Eaton Randolph, 61, and his wife Jan K. Randolph, 49, of 101 Guinevere Court, are charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors and public intoxication, while Jan Randolph is also charged with disorderly conduct.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday an anonymous caller reported a large party at the Randolph’s home at which several juveniles were drinking. The caller left the party after observing the illegal activity.

As Patrol Sgt. Bill Dunn and Deputy Matt Clagg arrived, eight cars left the area. The sergeant had to pause to break up a drunken brawl on Lancelot Drive a short distance from the party.

James Randolph came out and began screaming at Dunn who noticed he was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes. The teens detained by Dunn said Randolph and his wife had been drinking with them.

As Clagg approached the open garage at the Randolph’s home several teens fled dropping cups full of beer and other alcohol. He detained a number of other youngsters.

Randolph kept approaching Clagg and yelling that he saw nothing wrong with letting the juveniles drink at his daughter’s graduation party, so was placed under arrest.

His 18-year-old daughter who graduated Saturday afternoon ran to get her mother.

Jan Randolph then stumbled out of the house, unsteady on her feet and smelling strongly of alcohol and began yelling at the officers and threatening them, Dunn said. When she approached Dunn and Deputy Michael Parsons, she was arrested too.

Jan Randolph continued yelling threats to sue the officers and expressed hopes that they would die in traffic accidents until she was transported to the adult detention center.

Dunn and Deputy Jason Dowdle stayed on the scene contacting parents to get rides home for the drunken teens. While doing this they saw another teen peeking from an upstairs window. Upon investigating they found nine more teens hiding in the house.

Dunn estimated there were about 40 teens, aged 16-19, at the illegal party.

More charges could accrue.

James and Jan Randolph are free after making $2,750 and $3,250 bond respectively. They are set to appear in General Sessions Court on July 20.

I guess some people just don't know when to keep their mouth shut. Some people who wonder what is wrong with kids today doesn't have to look far with parents like these.

I hope the parents will learn a lesson, both should do jail time.
