The MTSU Women’s and Gender Studies Program will hold two events during National Women’s History Month to highlight women’s contributions to the university throughout its existence.

“Looking Back and Moving Forward: The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at MTSU,” a panel discussion, is slated for 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in Room 100 of the James Union Building.

Ayne Cantrell, Elyce Helford and Nancy Rupprecht, all former directors of the program, and Director Tina Johnson will talk about the discipline and its impact on the university.

“Women at MTSU: Retrospective Views” will bring together five panelists with decades of institutional memory to reflect on their many years of dedicated service to the university from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, which will be held in the same location.

The participants also will share insights on issues of interest or concern to women on campus and point to ways to enhance women’s positive experiences on campus.

The retrospective panelists will be Y. Faye Johnson, assistant to the university provost; Gloria Bonner, assistant to the president and the former dean of the College of Education; Nancy Rupprecht, history professor; Lillian Phillips, executive aide at the Tennessee Center for Child Welfare; and Rosemary Owens, dean of the University College from 1984 to 2005 and former director of the Office of Continuing Studies and Public Service.

This MTSU Centennial Celebration event is co-sponsored by the Association of Faculty and Administrative Women and the President’s Commission on the Status of Women.

Scholars Week at MTSU, March 26-30, also is “Celebrating Women as Scholars Week” to call attention to the work of MTSU’s female faculty, staffers and students.

These events are free and open to the public.
