| This year, 658,000 people will reach retirement age, the most since records began, according to the U.S. Government. By 2050, the Census Bureau says the number will represent 21 percent of the total population. Many, as they age, want to know how best to prepare, downsize and simplify their lives.
A diverse panel of area experts on older adult issues will provide information, tips and insights on that very subject Sunday, April 10, at a free panel discussion and reception at AdamsPlace Retirement Living at 1925 Memorial Blvd. in Murfreesboro.
“We talk to older adults and their adult children every day about the issues of preparing for this next phase of life, including financial matters, household matters, health matters, all with a goal of truly enjoying this season of life,” said AdamsPlace Retirement Living Director Marcie Richmond. “The key issue is not just doing it, but also moving toward that desire, and then the surprising freedom that comes with being truly prepared. Most people love this phase of life, because then they’re free of the maintenance and upkeep of it all, and can focus on the things they really want to do every day and the things that matter in their lives.”
For example, Kerry Morris, CFP, will discuss the key financial and legal components of this transition that every family needs to know. “What does Medicare really pay for? Is there anything that you can do right now to prepare for the potential transition later? What’s the relationship between cost and care and how do I make the best use of all resources? How do I stay at home longer? These are just some of the questions we’ll address,” Morris said.
Cooke, Belsky and Natsch also will provide expert advice and information on downsizing, selling your home, paring down your possessions and staying healthy.
Richmond says the audience will have a chance to ask questions, and then can enjoy a delicious refreshment buffet prepared by the AdamsPlace chef. “We’ll have our best hors d’ouvres that everybody loves,” she said. “We invite the community to come out and enjoy the afternoon with us.”
The event is free and open to the public; however, reservations are required because seating is limited. To reserve your seat, call 615.904.7100 or email Marcie Richmond at mrichmond@adamsplace.org. |
