One year later: 'No more waiting for the train' | TRAFFIC

Road closed. Not for long. The newly constructed bridge over the railroad tracks on Rutherford Boulevard opens to traffic just in time for rush hour Monday.
Update: The new bridge opened to traffic at 3 p.m. Monday.

After almost a year to the day construction began, the first cars will traverse the new bridge on Rutherford Boulevard this afternoon.

Road crews are putting the final touches on the bridge today for the rush hour.

“They’re paving it to get it all lined up,” said Ram Balachandran, Murfreesboro traffic engineer. The bridge will be open to traffic at 3 p.m. today.

The city has invested $4.3 million in the bridge over the CSX railroad and work began on the newly constructed bridge Aug. 13, 2007.

The city has invested more than $7.5 million to improve Rutherford Boulevard from Ransom Drive to Church Street. The existing road will also be widened from two to five lanes with curbs and gutters.

Rutherford Boulevard from Ransom Drive to Broad Street is also being widened from two lanes to five with curbs, gutters and sidewalks for $3,214,709 in city funds. This portion of the project is near completion and should be finished in the spring.

Nice- sidewalks where nobody walks but according to Dana Richardson there is no money for sidewalks along busy Bradyville pike where people have to walk in the street or in the ditch. Good planning!

Interesting point, bota. There is absolutely NO foot traffic on S. Rutherford Blvd. There just isn't anything THERE!

That said, If you're going to build a new road, might as well include a sidewalk for future use.

Well, Duh PreSold... Walk to Wendys from WHERE? The nearest homes (without having to cross over a field) are around the intersection of SE Broad and S Rutherford, Approximately 1.6 miles away.
