Olene Ruby Viges Robinson, age 74, died at The Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN, on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, after a long, courageous battle against cancer.
She was born Jan. 26, 1938, in St. John’s, Michigan, to Edgar L. and Mae E. (Jury) Viges. Married on July 7, 1997, she is survived by her loving husband and soul-mate, Billy Robinson, a son, Eric Gruenberg, a daughter-in-law, Cindy Mooneyham, granddaughters Kelly & Megan Gruenberg, and a beloved brother & sister-in-law, Enza & Isabel Viges of Midland, MI. Several nieces and nephews and many close friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister & brother-in-law, Julaine and Douglas Stevens.
Olene will especially be remembered for her warmth, her youthful spirit of adventure, her genuine, open-hearted nature, and her brilliant, contagious laugh. She emitted a joy & zest for life that turned strangers into friends everywhere she went. She and Billy, her husband of 15 years, cherished their time together and enjoyed traveling and visiting casinos.
A hardworking, dedicated employee, Olene worked for Michigan Bell Telephone, Lee Jeans, and Toshiba. Before retirement, she worked for 15 years at Reading For Education. As switchboard operator, Olene greeted staff each morning with her infectious smile. She knew not only the names of every employee but also the names of their family members because at RFE, Olene was not a co-worker, she was family.
Visitation will be Sun., Nov. 4, from 4-8 p.m., and the funeral service will be Mon., Nov. 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodfin Funeral Chapel, 1488 New Lascassas Pike, Murfreesboro, TN.
