Ian Davenport and Shelby Hughes from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro received national recognition at the FBLA Awards of Excellence.
Anaheim is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations and was a place well-suited for more than 7,800 future business leaders to Get the Edge.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL), the largest and oldest student business organization, held their National Leadership Conference at Anaheim Convention Center in June.

Ian Davenport and Shelby Hughes from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro received national recognition at the FBLA Awards of Excellence.

Davenport and Hughes competed in Business Ethics and brought home third place. This team event recognizes FBLA members who demonstrate the ability to present solutions to ethical situations encountered in the business world and the workplace.

Davenport and Hughes have become accustomed to the pressure of national competition as they have earned the honor of competing at the national level three times, twice for DECA competition and now for FBLA.

“We are so proud of our team and admire the hard work they have put in over the past two year’s of competition to reach placement of third place in the world. It has been a privilege to be associated with Ian and Shelby and I know they will be great business leaders,” said Art Yasso, Oakland High School FBLA advisor.

Oakland’s team was one of the few awards that Tennessee saw at this year's competition.
