Officers of Year named for local agencies | Crime, MPD, RCSO

Officer Shondale Clark was named the MPD Officer of the Year.
Rutherford County’s Crime Stoppers closed 957 cases last year thanks to help from local citizens.

The anti-crime program also recovered $577,000 in property and siezed more than $600,000 in narcotics, Murfreesboro Police Maj. Clyde Adkison said at the annual Crime Stoppers Officer of the Year awards banquet Monday afternoon.

“It takes a triangle,” Adkison said. “It takes the media. It takes citizens. It takes law enforcement. It takes all of us to do this.”

On the law enforcement side, Crime Stoppers honored outstanding police work by officers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Murfreesboro Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, La Vergne Police Department, MTSU Department of Public Safety and VA Police Department.

Trooper Scott Miller was named the THP Officer of the Year.

Miller is a 22-year law enforcement veteran. He has been with the THP for five years and spent 18 years with MPD before becoming a state trooper.

In 2009 Miller issued more than 150 tickets, worked 200 crashes and assisted more than 300 stranded motorists.

Deputy Jack Keisling was named the RCSO Officer of the Year.

Keisling is a member of the RCSO Criminal Warrants Division/Fugitive Squad, where he works with partner Deputy Randy Morrow to apprehend known felons with outstanding warrants.

He began his law enforcement career in 1982 in Livingston, Tenn. and joined the RCSO in 1986. He worked on the first dive team in Rutherford County and worked with K-9 units and the swat team.

Keisling showed his dedication when he rescued two victims of the Good Friday Tornado in April 2009. Here's a re-enactment of his heroism from The Weather Channel's Storm Stories:

Officer Shondale Clark was named the MPD Officer of the Year.

Clark has been in law enforcement for 22 years and received a perfect attendance award in 1989.

He has worked as a field training officer and continues to mentor new MPD recruits.

Officer Ken Harless was named the Smyrna Police Department Officer of the Year.

Harless has worked in the SPD Traffic Division for 10 years and just returned from his fourth tour of duty in Iraq with the U.S. Army.

Harless was nominated because he “exemplifies what it means to be a citizen soldier,” SPD Chief of Police Kevin Arnold said.

Det. David Durham was named the La Vergne Police Department Officer of the Year.

Durham joined the force in 2003 after graduating from MTSU and was assigned to the Narcotics Division in 2005.

In 2009 Durham transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division where he distinguished himself by investigating a counterfeiting operation that traced back to Nigeria.

Officer Kim Rednour was named the MTPD Officer of the Year.

Rednour began her law enforcement career as a dispatcher for the MTSU Department of Public safety and made the transition to police officer.

“As a dispatcher at MTSU, Kim was always reliable, smart and capable,” MT Chief Buddy Peaster said. “As an MTSU police officer, kim has proven to be all of that and more having distinguished herself as a dependable, hard-working police officer.”

VA Police Department Officer Scott Miller was also named.

JoesMontana,

Yes, there are two Scott Millers. One is a trooper and one is a member of the VA Police Department.
