Officer Matthew Stern will undergo multiple surgeries in the coming hours and days, according to an email from Sgt. Kyle Evans.

Stern, a nine year veteran of MPD and member of the Motorcycle Unit, was responding to an injury crash when he and another vehicle collided on Memorial Boulevard north of Northfield Boulevard on Thursday afternoon, July 13.

He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he is in "stable but serious condition."

The night of the crash, Evans tweeted Stern had suffered "serious internal injuries" but was stable. "Please continue to keep him and his family in your prayers."

Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating.

"The MPD would like to thank the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department, Rutherford County EMS, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and all of those involved in the response to this crash," said Evans.
