No charges were placed against a Murfreesboro Police officer accused by his wife for the third time of hitting her during an argument Thursday at their home, a supervisor reported.

Wife Catina D. Brown, 36, accused husband, Officer Finess Brown, 37, of hitting her in her right eye during an argument over the car keys, a cellular telephone and her reference to a man about 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Garry Carter reported.

The wife didn’t have any visible injuries, Carter reported.

She accused him in June 2007 and in February of domestic assault. She agreed in court in February to attend counseling sessions with her husband with a minister. She has an order of protection against her husband but agreed to let him live with her.

Circuit Court Judge J. Mark Rogers told Officer Brown in February he didn’t want a pattern to develop.

“Mr. Brown, if things fall through, you should remove yourself from the process,” Rogers said. “If something develops — and I’m not going to order it — you remove yourself from the situation.”

Mrs. Brown told Carter Thursday she was trying to leave the home but her husband would not give her the keys. They argued earlier because she said he would not let her see the phone numbers on his cell phone.

The wife told her husband, “The man was right. I can make it on my own,” Carter reported.

She accused her husband of going into a rage and demanded to know who the man was. She reported he hit her in the eye between 8 and 8:30 a.m. She also told Carter her husband told her she deserved what she got when he hit her in the temple and spit on her.

The wife said she replied, “OK, you finally admit that,” Carter reported.

She told Carter her husband threatened her if she called police. She did not want to prosecute him.

Police spokesman Kyle Evans said Detective Jennifer West is investigating.

Officer Brown didn’t want to comment, except to say he worked during the weekend and no one from the police department has questioned him about his wife’s report.

Many police officer's wives will do this to scare the officer into allowing the wife to do anything she wants. if it was me, I would divorce her.

Ditch the witch! besides.....would anyone else get 3 chances? What a world we live in!

Why is she the one getting the blame...we have one of our finest assaulting his wife! what happened to not being allowed to carry a weapon when you assualt.. i think that they should take his badge and gun away and he should go to jail!!

Her saying she was assaulted does not mean it happened Confused. According to the story there was no evidence of assault. A man should lose his job and be jailed based upon an accusation for which there is no evidence to support? Get real.

As a woman if i say that some guy hit me he is guilty----if he tells someone that i hit him first they laugh at him always two sides to every story.

WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE SAYING THIS, BUT WHY IN THE HELL IS SHE STILL WITH THIS SO CALLED "MAN"?????

By: attagirl on 8/17/09
I'm with you, MsAshley. If this is the third time he's assaulted her, she deserves what she gets. First time, his fault. Any subsequent time - it's on her.

Don't you think there would be physical evidence to if he hit her in the side of the eye. Come on, this time it looks like she is working the system. Why didn't she want to press charges. They need a divorce!

These comments make me sick, domestic violence kills every day. Women, men and children and these comments are making it some sort of joke. Its not funny if its your mom, sister or child.

kimid,or father, brother or child. it works both ways. She is making this up.

I agree; domestic violence is a very serious situation. As is falsely accusing someone of it- which is what this seems to be based on what is reported about this. It's pretty difficult to get hit in the face yet have no marks or visible areas of altercation. The face is so sensitive. Of course, only they know what really took place, but if I was one to bet I'd say she is accusing him of things in order to get him in hot water knowing how much attention it would publicly get because of his line of work.

I've seen a lot of women make things like this up, but one thing this story has in common with many many stories that are told in domestic violence court is that they were arguing over the cell phone and keys to the car so she could leave.

That is the number one argument you see happening in these cases - cell phones and keys.

lock them both up for 30 days, they will figure out their own problems!

Kimid, I never said that this behavior is ok, rather it be a man beating a woman, a woman beating a man or any other way. What I am merely saying is that if these allegations are true why did she allow it to happen a third time? The first time that domestic violence happens to ANYONE they need to get out of that situation. There is alot of help out there for these people who want to get out.

You know what you tell a woman with two black eyes........nothing you already told her twice. I know it's poor taste, but it just reminded me of that joke.

I'm wondering how many times the system is going to try to rescue this woman from a system she clearly doesn't want to leave. If a man hit me once, that's it. I'm gone. This woman has been hit three times that she has reported. She has an order of protection and yet she says the guy can live in the home. I think that is ridiculous!!!

did he hit 1 wife 3 x's or 3 wives 1 x ????

What is wrong with M'boro police dept. Here is a police officer that assaults his wife. He obviously need professional counseling. Is the police dept going to wait for him to lose control and shoot someone?
The fact that she doesn't press charges, could be part of battered wife syndrome.
mhm2a poor taste !

Publius, What you have here is a police officer that has been accused of hitting his wife 3 times. The domestic violence statute states that if there is enough physical evidence to indicate that there has actually been an assault and if you are able to determine a "primary aggressor" then the police MUST make an arrest. Its actually the only midemeanor charge where an officer is given a command about making an arrest from a statute. Its written this way to help prevent battered woman syndrome from influencing the outcome of a case.

In all the times that Officer Brown has been accused of this by his wife, including an arrest warrant issued by a detective from his own department, he has never been convicted. I'm still not convinced that he is the one responsible for the situation. I don't understand why they are still a couple because it appears that this will continue to be an issue.
