Even the extremely cold temperatures couldn’t stop a group of construction and masonry students from Oakland High School. During the past three weeks, they have been putting their class time to good use, building two homes for Habitat for Humanity.

Along with learning how to read blueprints, designing and building walls in class, the students have taken on the task of erecting all the walls for the two houses.

“The students have really taken this project to heart,” says class instructor Eddie Carroll. “On Wednesday, Jan. 13, 17 students even went out to the job site near MTSU and erected the walls they had built during their class time,” Carroll said.

“A smaller group went out on the following Saturday and helped with construction of the roof and front porch. I am very proud of their efforts and interests in this project,” Carroll said.

The students have now finished building the walls for a second house and may work on other Habitat homes in the future.
