From the National Weather Service:

A developing low pressure system if the Gulf of Mexico will move into the lower Mississippi Valley tonight spreading precipitation northward in the Tennessee Valley.

Precipitation will start late tonight in Middle Tennessee in the form of light rain mixing with light snow especially in northern areas and continue into early Tuesday morning.

The precipitation will then transition into all rain by late morning on Tuesday but switch back to a rain and snow mix Tuesday evening.

All snow is expected from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday. Snow will begin to taper off during the day Wednesday from the west as the low pulls northeastward up the East Coast.

No snow accumulation is expected through Tuesday afternoon. However an accumulation snow of one inch to two inches is likely late Tuesday night with another inch possible on  Wednesday especially eastern areas and the Plateau.

Heavier snow accumulations of four inches or more are not out of the question with this event.

So far this winter season Nashville has had four snow events with a total of 9.3 inches of snow.

This has been the snowiest winter since 15.1 inches fell during the winter season of 2002 and 2003.

The snowiest winter of record was in 1959 and 1960 when 38.5 inches of snow fell.
