No presence of alcohol in detective following crash: DA | SHERIFF, RUCO

Sgt. Ron Killings
A blood-alcohol test showed no presence of alcohol in a sheriff's detective sergeant involved in a crash that killed an 11-year-old girl Thursday, a prosecutor said.

Test results taken from Detective Sgt. Ron Killings were negative, said District Attorney General William Whitesell.

Law enforcement spokesman said Killings was driving his sheriff's car Thursday night when Lakeisha White of Hopkinsville, Ky., darted out in front of him about 8:45 p.m. on Bradyville Pike. Lakeisha was visiting her grandmother. She died early Friday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Killings submitted to a routine blood alcohol test Thursday night after the crash. The blood was submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory for analysis.

Whitesell said he was notified the test showed no alcohol.

Murfreesboro Police Sgt. Sam Campbell, who commands the Fatal Accident Crash Team, said the crash investigation remains open.

"I talked to one witness today who confirmed the girl went out in the middle of the road," Campbell said.

He was scheduled to talk with other witnesses.

Whitesell said once FACT finishes their investigation, he expects to discuss their findings.

Killings remains on routine administrative leave during the investigation.

We need to be showing our support for Sgt. Killings. It was an accident that could happen to any of us! He, as well as the little girl's family is hurting. May God bring comfort to both families.

Thank you, DNJ, for reporting fairly. Thoughts and prayers are out for both families. I'm just wondering if any "witnesses" will be charged in this matter, since they are hiding "evidence" they claim will help their side of the case. If they were honest people, they wouldn't wait for the police to come to them, they would take the "bottle" to the police. (that's right...IF) Sounds like another case of money hungry, publicity hounds to me. They should be grieving, not talking to press...

Are you being sarcastic, Sigma? The DNJ was anything but fair or accurate.

ABSOLUTELY being sarcastic. I've never read reporting so one sided, and based on unsubstantiated claims. The Post is all I care to read anymore.

This needs a real investigation. Murfreesboro's image to the rest of the world rides on it as does our future.

Well I never had any doubts that the blood would ever come back anything but negative. I am very disappointed in the lack of good reporting from the DNJ. I hope that they get what is coming to them as well as all the other people that have obviously lied to the police. God bless both families and may time and prayer heal all thier hurt.

It's a tragedy for all involved. However, I wonder if it will ever be brought up that the little girl's guardians let her out at dark--unsupervised--on a busy street.
