Brenda Warner
New York Times best-selling author, Brenda Warner, will speak at the Special Kids 11th annual Friendraiser Banquet on Aug. 24 at Calvary Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.

Warner is the wife of NFL quarterback, Kurt Warner, and co-author of the book, "First Things First: The Rules for Being a Warner." Before she reached age 25, Warner had served as a US Marine, become a single mom, and faced the challenge of raising a child with special needs. Today, she is the mother of seven and has experienced the blessings and pressures of being married to an NFL superstar.

“We are thrilled to have Brenda join us for this year’s Friendraiser Banquet,” Special Kids Marketing Specialist Ginger Warf said. “Her life is a great example of how hope in Christ can carry you through any situation.”

Special Kids, a local Christian nonprofit serving children with special needs, invited Warner to their Welcoming Hope Banquet to share her story of faith. The evening gives the community an opportunity to learn about the life-changing work of Special Kids and celebrate the milestones that children with special needs have reached there.

Mickey Tafesse, 5, will be the featured child for the evening.

When Mickey first came to Special Kids in 2006, he was 18 months old and could not move in or out of sitting. Mickey had no means of communication, except for mumbling requests to be kissed on his forehead. Today, Mickey can walk on his own, kick a ball, and say three to five word sentences.

The banquet will commence with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m. with dinner provided by Demos’ Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. Event Sponsorships for eight seats are $1,250, table sponsorships for eight seats are $750, and individual tickets are $100. To purchase a table or individual tickets, contact Warf at 615-893-4892 or visit specialkidstn.com to register online.

Special Kids is a Christian-based therapeutic rehabilitation and skilled nursing care facility in Middle Tennessee, providing medical and rehabilitative care for children with special needs.
