Amber Alert suspect arrested in Smyrna

A man accused of kidnapping three children and then leading police on a high-speed chase through three counties was arrested on Tuesday, March 13, in Smyrna.

Keith Tansil was wanted by the Nashville Metro Police Department following a weekend Amber Alert out of Goodlettsville. Tansil is accused of taking three children at gunpoint early Sunday morning. The children were recovered shortly after the Amber Alert was issued while Tansil remained at large. As a result of the incident, the Goodlettsville Police Department charged Tansil with Interfering with an Emergency Call, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Especially Aggravated Kidnapping. 

On Monday, March 12, Lebanon Police Department encountered Tansil after receiving a suspicious vehicle call. Tansil rammed at least one police vehicle while fleeing. This initiated a high-speed car pursuit, that was terminated due to high speeds in excess of 100 mph, and Tansil was not apprehended at the time. The Lebanon Police Department filed the following charges after the Monday morning pursuit: Driving on a Revoked License, Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle, and nine counts of Reckless Endangerment.

On Tuesday, March 13, the U.S. Marshals Service received information that Tansil was in the Antioch area and contacted the Metro-Nashville Police Department’s Aviation Unit for assistance. Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force identified Tansil driving a vehicle and an attempt was made to stop him, however he fled from officers at a high rate of speed.

After driving through La Vergne and into Smyrna, Tansil’s vehicle was pinned to a guard rail at the intersection of South Lowry Road and Overhead Bridge Road. Tansil was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Davidson County Jail.  A handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle Tansil was driving.
