Two Illinois residents were charged after sheriff’s interstate officers seized about $16,500 worth of marijuana from them Saturday on Interstate 24, a sheriff’s supervisor said.
John W. Woods, 43, and Tasha M. English, both of Springfield, Ill., were charged with felony possession of marijuana by Sgt. Shawn Applegate of the Interstate Crime Enforcement unit.
Applegate stopped Woods on a traffic violation. His K-9, Jett, checked the vehicle.
“I walked K-9 Jett around the vehicle and he displayed a positive alert,” Applegate said.
Deputies located a bag with 20.5 pounds of marijuana and two smaller bags of marijuana in the vehicle, he reported.
Their hearings are set Jan. 14 in General Sessions Court.
In an unrelated case, ICE Deputy Travis Robinson charged Diane Ciavone, 43, of LaFayette, Ga., with possession of Valium and marijuana after stopping her on a traffic violation.
About 90 Valium tablets and seven marijuana joints were recovered from her car, the deputy reported.
Her hearing is set Dec. 13 in General Sessions Court.
