Recycle Rutherford will hold its semi-annual hazardous waste collection Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Golf Lane just off Old Fort Parkway.
The collection site will be in the field to the left just before the entrance to the golf course.
There will be a swap table after 1p.m. for some of the items turned in.
Acceptable Items:
AUTOMOTIVE AND MARINE PRODUCTS, oil and fuel additives, grease and rust solvents, naval jelly, carburetor and fuel injector cleaners, starter fluids, body putty, antifreeze/coolant, gasoline, air conditioning refrigerants, waste oil, waste gasoline, welding supplies, grease.
HOME MAINTENANCE/IMPROVEMENT PRODUCTS, oil-based paint, used strippers and thinners, adhesives, driveway sealant, roofing tar, wallpaper remover, stains and varnishes.
HOME LAWN AND GARDEN PRODUCTS, pesticides, fertilizers, wood preservatives, herbicides, fungicides.
MISCELLANEOUS, pool chemicals, photo-processing chemicals. medicine/drugs, aerosols/compressed gas, mercury thermostats and thermometers, fluorescent tubes, dry-cell batteries, fingernail polish remover.
ELECTRONICS, CPUs.(central processing units) TVs (console TVs must be dismantled), home computer monitors, home computer printers, home computer keyboards.
HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS, drain openers, oven cleaners, wood and metal cleaners and polishes, toilet bowl, tub, and tile cleaners, strong disinfectants.
Unacceptable Items:
MEDICAL/BIOLOGICAL, needles and sharps, infectious wastes, dead animal, any waste from a doctor's office, clinic, or veterinarian's office (as defined by Tennessee Rule 1200-1-7-.01(2), friable asbestos (this is demolition waste), machine [arts/compressors containing oil or freon, dead appliances and incandescent light bulbs(not fluorescent), vegetable oil, dried paint cans and completely dried up latex paint, auto parts, cement mix, lime, bone meal, and grout, home-canned food, home made wine, Di-pel (organic pesticide) laundry soaps/non-pesticidal shampoo, over the counter medicines and vitamins, unidentified powder (may be talcum).
EXPLOSIVES/AMMUNITION, fireworks, military ordnance, gunpowder, ammunition (e.g. DOT Class A. B. or C explosives).
RADIOACTIVES, smoke detectors, radium paint, radioactive compounds (e.g. Americium, barium, cesium, uranium).
BUSINESS/INSTITUTIONAL WASTE, no businesses, large or small, no colleges or universities, no schools, no hospitals, no home improvement or painting contractors, no agribusiness; MISCELLANEOUS, empty containers of any kind (including gas cylinders), automotive gas tanks, laboratory chemicals, cooking oil.
