Tales of a Bonnaroo virgin: Day three
Bonnaroo is sick!

An overly enthused Gov't Mule fan shouted the phrase during the jam band's long set Saturday night.

And I think it is the perfect way to sum up the music and arts festival.

Day three of the sixth annual event was incredible. I don't know if day three is just the day you become adapted to the heat and being outdoors all day and your mind finally bends to a different plane, or if it was just that I started the day after five hours or so of sleep in my Murfreesboro apartment.

It is probably the latter.

Jen and I arrived back at Bonnaroo just in time to catch the set by Regina Spektor, the Russian born indie pop singer, with a sweet almost angelic voice.

She was so sweet to the crowd and concerned about our safety.

Specktor enjoyed a healthy afternoon crowd who cheered and offered their support when the singer forgot the words to her songs a couple times.

Damien Rice followed later with another mellow set.

Jen and I sought refuge of sorts on a deck of bleachers during the show, but I think it made things worse for us. We already knew we were on the verge of some serious sunburns, and I think the metal bleachers created a glare that made it worse.

Another cool thing about Bonnaroo is that the festival is one of the only places where you can spray people with water and have them thank you for it.

I have seen that and many other courteous acts happen over and over at the festival.

Everyone is really looking out for each other in the scorching heat where many are drinking alcohol and doing other things.

Day three got better and better as the day went on. I got my groove on watching Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals and got my dance on at Franz Ferdinand.

Saturday's headliner, The Police, were, hmmm, awesome seems to be the only word that comes to mind. Nearly everyone at the festival wedged themselves in the main stage (What Stage) area to hear the classic rock trio perform their hit shows.

The mostly 20-something crowd knew the words to most of the songs and engaged with Sting's electrifying presence.

Flaming Lips followed. Anticipation for this show was high as the Flaming Lips are widely known for their spectacular live shows.

Everyone couldn't believe it when front man Wayne Coyne briefly when into the crowd inside his large bubble. Many seemed to know that Coyne did the trick at other shows but didn't think they would get to see it themselves.

We caught only 30 minutes of that show and moved on to Gov't Mule. I was in some sort of zen state. I was feeling the music by the band fronted by the now official King of Bonnaroo Warren Haynes.
