Who serves up the best hot wings for Super Bowl Sunday?

If you rely on number of wings sold, it's Toot's with an estimated 13,000 ready for the big celebration Sunday at the Northwest Broad Street restaurant, not counting the 10,000 sold at Toot's in Smyrna.

If you rely on the popular vote, Kirkenburt's earned 34 of 123 votes cast in Murfreesboro Post's best hot wings poll from Wednesday through Friday. Slick Pig II held second place with 27 and Toot's third with 24.

Our discriminating readers posted their favorites with explanations ranging from most meat to stickiest fingers.

No matter what your favorite place, wings remain a popular Super Bowl menu must with more than 60,000 sold in Murfreesboro-area restaurants. That doesn't include the wings people prepare at home with their own special recipes.

Here are the Murfreesboro Post's Top 11 places to get Super Bowl wings based on readers' input on our Web site.

1. Kirkenburt's Smokehouse Grill on Cason Lane. This is the restaurant's first Super Bowl. They offer regular and smoked wings with barbecue and a highly smoked with sweet tangy sauce.

2. Toot's owner Wade Hays expects to sell sells five to six times more wings on Super Bowl Sunday than any other Sunday with a total 23,000 wings at the Murfreesboro restaurant and the second one on Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna.

The restaurant's sauce was developed 21 years ago. Toot's was the first restaurant to introduce Middle Tennessee to Buffalo wings. The most popular orders are the medium and mild wings.

3. Slick Pig I on East Main Street expects to sell 10,000 of its smoked, fall-off-the-bone wings. You're out of luck today because the restaurant is closed on Sundays. But the franchise, Slick Pig II on South Church Street, expects to sell smoked wings until 3 p.m. The smoked wings are tender.

4. Coconut Bay Café on Mall Circle doubles its normal wing sales on Super Bowl Sunday.
Customers prefer the honey barbecue or hot sauces. The wings are described as "jumbo wings."

5. Wing Stop North Thompson Lane will experience its first Super Bowl in Murfreesboro. Owner Nick Hawn said customers especially order the garlic Parmesan and hot wings for the freshness, crispness and texture.

6. Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar on Stones River Mall Circle serves the popular hot and honey barbecue wings. Fourteen varieties are offered.
Rambozo: Buffalo Wild Wings is the best as well as having the best selection of sauce to put on the wings.

7. Crockett's Roadhouse on Northwest Broad Street got several votes for its wings.

8. Hooters on Northwest Broad Street expects to sell 8,000 of its breaded, crisp wings Super Bowl Sunday. Patrons eat 2,000 wings on most Sundays. Customers prefer the hot and medium varieties.

9. Smokin' Ed's on South Lowry Street in Smyrna expects to sell 3,000 of its tender, juicy smoked and Buffalo wings.

10. 'Boro Bar and Grill on Greenland Drive sells wings to the MTSU crowd and long-time residents.
interkosmos: ?I spend a lot of time at The Boro Bar & Grill and I have to say…their chicken wings rival that of Toots and far exceed Hooters.

11. Couva Calypso Café on Memorial Boulevard marinates wings about 24 hours, then bakes the wings in the oven. They will sell about 400 wings Sunday.

Kappa Delta has held a "Wing Fling" for the past 3 years. Last year the winners for "judges pick" for restaurant — Calypso Café.

This event will be on MTSU 's campus April 21. In addition to great wings, Kappa Delta will be serving drinks, desserts, music, a silent auction, children's games and a wing-eating contest. The proceeds from the "Wing Fling go to the Exchange Club Family Center.
Honorable mention:
· Wing Zone anticipates selling 10,000 jumbo wings with 25 varieties of the original and boneless versions. That's three times as many as any given Sunday.
· Corky's on John Rice Boulevard of Murfreesboro marinates the wings 48 hours before smoking.
· Bar-B-Cutie on Old Fort Parkway sells fresh hot wings with signature sauces.
· Fanatics on Old Fort Parkway expects to sell 500 wings with five different sauces.
· Domino's Pizza on Baird Lane and Warrior Drive expect to sell about 900 made-to-order wings.

Angela: Chef Raymond's on Southeast Broad Street is the hot spot now a days for hot wings. I love 'em.

Trvlace: I really like the ones that I make, just put them in a baking dish, and put a cup of soy sauce and a cup of orange juice in with them, sprinkle with garlic salt and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or so. Yum, Yum.
