The Tennessee Virtual Enterprises International Network is hosting the second Tennessee State Business Plan Competition at Middle Tennessee State University Jan. 11-12. Students from throughout Tennessee — including teams from Rutherford County high schools — will compete for a chance to proceed to the national competition held in New York City.

Virtual Enterprises International is a simulated business that is set up and run by high school students throughout the state. Students do "virtual" business with other students in the United States and Europe. These students not only work in a business environment but also experience involvement as a business partner and an employee in a firm.

Last year, a team from Blackman High School won the competition and a chance to contend in the nationals in New York. Because of the number of teams competing this year at MTSU, the top two teams from Tennessee will advance to the national competitions.

Also new this year is a scholarship for the winning teams to help cover their expenses for traveling to the nationals. The Tennessee Business Roundtable will award $2,500 to each of the winning teams. The Roundtable group is a non-partisan business organization made up of CEO's of major corporations in the state.
