National Tartan Day Celebration on the Square

Today, more than 11 million Americans claim Scottish and Scotch-Irish roots-making them the eighth largest ethnic group in the US.

Scottish-Americans are invited to show their colors at National Tartan Day Celebration at 1 a.m. Saturday on the Square.

Americans of Scottish descent have played a vital and influential role in the development of the United States.

From the framers of the Declaration of Independence to the first man on the moon, Scottish-Americans have contributed mightily to the fields of art, science, politics and law.

These are the people honored on National Tartan Day.

Theater
Enchanted April blossoms at the Center for the Arts through April 19.

When two frustrated London housewives decide to rent a villa in Italy for a holiday away from their bleak marriages, they recruit two very different English women to share the cost and the experience. There, among the wisteria blossoms and Mediterranean sunshine, all four bloom again, rediscovering themselves in ways that they—and we—could never have expected.

Enchanted April runs April 3 through 19, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $8 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be reserved during Center hours by calling (615) 904-2787.

The Center for the Arts is located at 110 West College Street, one block off of the Historic Murfreesboro Square. For more information, visit www.BoroArts.org.

MTSU Theatre presents Urinetown the Musical at 7:30 p.m. April 1-4 and at 2 p.m. April 5 in the Boutwell Dramatic Arts Building’s Tucker Theatre.

When Bobby, a custodian at the filthiest toilet in town, decides enough is enough, he leads a rebellion to free the citizens.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for MTSU staff and K-12 students. MTSU students are admitted free of charge with a valid ID. For more information, call 615-494-8810.
