| MTSU grad reached a national audience Sunday night and shared his passion for art on a new Travel Channel show.
Art historian Lee Sandstead, a 1996 MTSU graduate, took his passion to the airwaves in “Art Attack with Lee Sandstead,” where he toured the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Gallery of Art, both in Washington, D.C. Sandstead will take audiences to museums in New York City, Balitmore and Los Angeles in upcoming episodes.
“We have a fast, passionate time going through the nation's top museums looking at five must-see pieces,” Sandstead said.
Art Attack tries to renew the art experience with journeys to the world's coolest art museums with Sandstead regaling the audience with stories and facts.
Art Attack’s Web Site describes Sandstead as the “world's most fired-up art historian. And of all the things that you could say about him, the most important is that he loves art.”
Since his graduation from MTSU, Sandstead studied art history in a master’s program at the University of Memphis and in a doctoral program at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He also taught art history from 2001-2007 at Montclair State University.
Sandstead has also made a name for himself by photographing art, which has been published in publications like The New York Times, Ms. and Preservation Magazine.
