One of the latest trends in beverages has hit Murfreesboro.

The city now has its first bubble tea café, The Green Mango, just off the MTSU campus at 1513 E. Main St., Suite C. Call the café at 410-7561.

The fruit or tea-based smoothie containing chewy tapioca pearls has been sold in Murfreesboro for years, but brother and sister Jack and Tina Khammoung felt it was time to open a café that specialized in the popular beverage.

“I have been to the big cities and everybody has one,” Tina said.

The authentic Asian drink is a staple in Taiwan, Japan and other parts of Europe, she said. The popularity of the drink has been growing in the United States for about 10 years.

And there doesn’t seem to be a better place to open a café specializing in what many would consider an unusual drink, than next to the university campus, where students seem to be up on the latest trends and willing to try new things, Tina said.

Jack and Tina Khammoung decided to try something new as well — opening their first business.

“We just want to see how it goes,” Tina said. “We wanted to have our own business.”

Jack recently accepted a buyout offer from Nissan, which allowed the pair to afford to opening the business.

The Green Mango offers 15 varieties of bubble teas, Vietnamese-style slow-drip coffee, hot, homemade soy drinks, Thai tea and gourmet coffee.

To make the café even more enticing for students, The Green Mange features free Wi-Fi Internet and an authentic Asian deli selling a variety of menu items including Vietnamese sandwiches and spicy Thai sandwiches and egg rolls.

The café’s international market is stocked with everything from authentic fish sauce and shrimp paste to dorm staples like instant ramen and udon noodles.

Tina said she hopes the café becomes a hangout for students between classes and the general public. Besides free Internet, The Green Mango also is equipped with a 47-inch flat screen television.

The Green Mango is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Keller Williams Realty is preparing to open a Smyrna office this spring owned by veteran Realtors Marc Adkins and Joi Sherrill

The real estate agents, who until recently were with Prudential Rowland Real Estate on Sam Ridley Boulevard, are currently working to build their team out of Keller Williams’ St. Andrews Drive office.

“We are looking for experienced Realtors to join our team in Smyrna,” Sherrill said, adding ownership opportunities will be available.

A Smyrna office has yet to be located.

Sherrill said she made the move to Keller Williams to grow professionally and because of the additional services the company offers to homebuyers and sellers.

“We are both looking to advance our careers with ownership opportunities and the expanded services we can offer to our clients,” she said.

Adkins, who formerly served Prudential Rowland as corporate operations manager and broker, will serve as broker in the Keller Williams’ Smyrna office. He has been in the real estate business for 21 years, spending the first 10 years with Bob Parks Realty.

Sherrill, a real estate agent for six years, spent the previous 15 years in education as a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator, mostly at Cedar Grove Elementary.

Contact Adkins at 615-714-7441 or Sherrill at 615-596-6101.
