Directing Smyrna to the last two state championships, Middle Tennessee Christian School's first-year coach, Phillip Shadowens knows something about the TSSAA playoffs.
Friday night the Cougars defeated visiting Forrest, 21-14, in a heads-up match for the fourth spot in the Region 5-1A playoffs. The Cougars made a furious rally in the last five minutes of the game to claim the clutch win and post-season berth.
The playoff berth will be the first ever for the Cougars who finished the season 7-3 overall and 6-3 in the region.
Eagleville pulled out a barnburner over White House Community, 27-26, in overtime on the road. The Eagles finished 4-6.
