Construction on Rutherford County’s newest Zaxby’s, a Southeast favorite for chicken fingers and Buffalo wings, is now underway in Smyrna.
Licensees Brian Cox and Keith Broome plan to open the new quick-casual restaurant later this fall. Located at 995 Industrial Blvd., in front of Super Target in the Colonial Town Park shopping center, the new Zaxby’s will create an additional 40 to 50 jobs for the area.
“We are pleased to offer Zaxby’s to Smyrna and bring a fourth location to Rutherford County,” said Cox, who will oversee day-to-day operations in the new restaurant. “We look forward to introducing Zaxby’s fresh, prepared-at-order food and superior service, as well as becoming a good neighbor in the community.”
Cox and Broome got involved with Zaxby’s after a family friend, who owns eight Zaxby’s in Georgia, recommended the chain to the partners, who were seeking an entrepreneurial opportunity. After further research into the fast-casual restaurant’s history and potential for growth, they decided to open their own units.
“Becoming involved with a successful company with a proven track record is a chance we couldn’t pass up,” said Cox. “Plus, I love the food.” This is the group’s first Zaxby’s restaurant, but they plan to open more locations in the area in the near future.
Zaxby’s provides delicious chicken fingers, Buffalo wings, sandwiches, salads and more in a fun, relaxing atmosphere. Zaxby’s is a pioneer of the quick-casual format, providing services and amenities that fall somewhere between fast food and a sit-down restaurant.
At the new restaurant, customers will place their orders at the counter, and will be called to pick up their meals when they are ready. The new 3,495-square-foot location will seat 91 in Zaxby’s welcoming design — a bright, open interior décor complemented by vintage memorabilia and signage. Zaxby’s will also offer drive-thru services to meet the needs of customers on the go.
The new location will be the fourth for Rutherford County and the 41st for the state when it opens. There are three Zaxby’s locations in near by Murfreesboro, two of which are owned by Kevin Maddox and the other by Ed McRae. Zaxby’s currently operates more than 445 locations in 12 states — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
Zaxby’s success is rooted in a simple operating philosophy developed by its founders that has matured into the company’s mission statement — “consistently create encore experiences that enrich lives one person at a time.” That statement is not only the driving force behind the company’s pursuit to provide delicious food and excellent customer service, it’s also what helps the company create a fun work atmosphere for employees.
Bill Stinnett will serve as the new restaurant’s assistant general manager and plans to hire 40 to 50 team members, consisting primarily of cooks and cashiers. “The key to success at Zaxby’s is a great smile and a willingness to learn and grow,” said Stinnett, a lifelong Smyrna resident. “We’re a different kind of restaurant with a different kind of attitude — from the food and service we provide to our customers, to the respect we provide to each other.” Candidates who are interested may apply in person at the new restaurant.
An alternative to fast food, Zaxby’s offers prepared-at-order chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads. Zaxby’s most popular items are its hand-breaded Chicken Fingerz and Jumbo Buffalo Wings, smothered in a choice of eight sauces with names like Wimpy, Tongue Torch, Nuclear and Insane. The menu also offers innovative Zappetizers — Onion Rings, Tater Chips (home-style potato chips) and Spicy Fried Mushrooms, as well as a variety of Party Platterz perfect for any family gathering or special occasion.
Zaxby’s also offers three salads, or Zalads: The House, The Blue and The Caesar. All are prepared at order, with grilled or fried chicken, three kinds of lettuce, shredded cheese, fresh veggies and juicy tomatoes. Customers have a choice of buffaloed or blackened chicken when ordering The Blue. All of Zaxby’s Zalads offer more chicken and unique ingredients, such as French-fried onions, and are larger than most salads offered elsewhere. Each Zalad is assembled at the time the order is placed, versus being pre-made and stored in a cooler. Zaxby’s is a “quick-casual” restaurant chain headquartered in Athens, Ga.
Zaxby’s opened its first restaurant in Statesboro, Ga., in March 1990, and by July 2001 opened its 100th location in Jacksonville, Fla. Zaxby’s celebrated its 200th restaurant opening in its hometown of Athens, Ga., in May 2004, and in December 2005 observed its 300th opening in Dallas, Ga. In October 2007 Zaxby’s opened its 400th location in Macon, Ga.
