City voters cast 346 votes in tribute to the late Lon Nuell, who served 12 years on the Murfreesboro City School Board.
Nuell died suddenly on March 12 of a massive stroke.
Nuell served on the MCS board from 1996 and was currently serving his third four-year term. He had previously held the office of Chair and Vice Chair. He was up for re-election this year. He had also taught art at MTSU since 1971.
He had been a member of MTSU’s Department of art since 1971. He had served as chairman of the art department and served as director of the university’s Todd Gallery.
His dedication to art education was recognized when Tennessee’s Department of Education asked him to serve as a panel member to develop new standards for K-12 art education in 2004.
He was one of the founding members of the Tennessee Holocaust Commission and had worked for more than 20 years to educate others about the Holocaust. He was chairman and co-chair of MTSU's Holocaust Program.
