Lon Nuell’s dedication to art and art education will be honored by the City Hall Art Committee with an exhibit of his works in the City Hall Rotunda.

The 12-year Murfreesboro City School Board member and 37-year MTSU Art Professor passed away unexpectedly in March after suffering a stroke in Murfreesboro.

“Murfreesboro City School system was so fortunate to have Dr. Lon Nuell serve as a member of the school board for twelve years,” said Cheryl Harris, Murfreesboro City School spokesperson and City Hall Art Committee member.

Nuell is perhaps best known for championing the addition of professionally trained art teachers in each of Murfreesboro’s schools.

“While other programs throughout the country have been eliminated by budget constraints, city school children have benefited from a first-class art program secured by Dr. Nuell,” Harris said.

His dedication to the arts is honored by the exhibit and tribute, which runs Monday-Friday, April 7-27 with a reception from 4-7 Thursday night April 24 in the Rotunda.
