About $24,000 worth of checks stolen from Erma Siegel Elementary School was canceled after the documents were stolen last week from the school, a Murfreesboro Police supervisor said.

The school bookkeeper reported the checks and about $600 cash were stolen from a locked location in the school between Tuesday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Officer Keith Sanders reported.

Detective Maj. Jim Gage said the preliminary investigation showed the amount of cash actually missing was $170. Also, the school canceled the checks and will order new checks.

A suspect has not been identified. Detective Jeff Keaton is investigating.
