A convicted felon wanted for selling drugs in Albany, New York, was nabbed early Thursday in Murfreesboro by Rutherford County Sheriff’s detectives and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force.
Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Thomas, who is assigned to the marshal’s task force, and marshal’s apprehended felon Ameek Morton, 26, of Albany, about 6 a.m. at Chelsea Place Apartments on Bradyville Pike.
Morton was charged in a sealed indictment for two counts of a controlled substance, Thomas said. He was also wanted for two counts of assault, menacing, possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
“He is a convicted felon” who was previously charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer, Thomas said.
The New York/New Jersey Regional U.S. Marshal’s Task Force received a lead Morton lived in Murfreesboro. The Middle Tennessee Marshals’ office assigned the case to Thomas about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. Thomas learned Morton lived at Chelsea Place. Thomas and the marshal’s raided Morton’s apartment and took him into custody.
Thomas charged Morton with being a fugitive from justice.
Morton is being held without bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is set Oct. 3 in General Sessions Court.
The investigation showed Morton and his wife moved in June to Murfreesboro. His wife told Thomas and the marshal’s she knew people who lived in Murfreesboro. They were both unemployed. |
