I found this article very interesting. I mean, I was bullied as a kid, and I really don’t think I am bothered by it now. I don’t and haven’t ever felt suicidal and I don’t plan to be. I don’t really get depressed more than I would say the average person, so I found that to be odd. If Duke University has been researching this, though, I am not going to bash it. I probably just fall into a healthy, exceptional bracket. Suicide has been rising lately, I know serving for the TN National Guard, we do everything in our power to help out soldiers and minimize the risk of suicide. There is a lot more emphasis on suicide prevention than there used to be. We carry ACE cards with us everywhere we go and they have even designed an app called “Guard Your Buddy” to allow soldiers a 24 hour hotline they can call if they are feeling down and just need someone to talk to. Bullying is a big issue and now with the added room for bullying on social media sites in new ways, we will have to adapt and find new ways to address the issues that can lead to problems outside the classroom as well.
