A Nissan spokesman confirmed Tuesday reports that the company is seeking to expand to a new space near its manufacturing plant in Smyrna.

The Nashville Business Journal’s Nevin Batiwalla first reported the news Tuesday afternoon.

“Nissan is planning a new parts distribution facility between Murfreesboro and Smyrna consisting of 60,000 square feet of renovated office space and a new 400,000-square-foot warehouse,” Batiwalla wrote. “Ronald Buck, the real estate developer and owner of the property at 4500 Singer Rd., said he has executed a lease agreement with Nissan to occupy the property, which sits on 28 acres four miles southeast of Nissan's Smyrna plant.”

Nissan spokesman Justin Saia said the company is currently in discussion with Buck, but could not disclose how the space will be used.

According to Batiwalla’s report, rehab of an existing building has begun and construction of the new warehouse should start next week, Buck said.

The space at 4500 Singer Rd. housed B & W Wholesales Distributors Inc., which was a member of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, according to the Chamber website.
