The Rutherford Gala this month kicks off a special year of activities for Middle Tennessee Medical Center as work continues to move ahead on the new hospital on Medical Center toward a projected June 2010 finish.
The new hospital is scheduled to open Oct. 2.
Here are the latest updates on the huge project.
1. The fifth floor patient tower is 99 percent complete, reports Matt Miller, project manager with Turner Universal.
2. The drywall hanging and finishing will be 100 percent complete by Feb. 15, he reports. (There is approximately 2,326,000 square feet of drywall.)
3. Progress continues on the healing garden that provides calming outdoor space for patients, visitors and staff, reports Jennifer Garland, project director for MTMC. This area will have a water feature, beautiful landscaping, detailed, hardscaped pathways and seating. It can also be viewed from the main lobby and from several areas from within the hospital and from patient room windows.
4. The process of purchasing the $32 million of medical equipment for the facility is under way, Garland adds.
Upon completion the new hospital will feature:
