Wartarsha McAdoo, mother of four and daycare worker, will finally have her own room thanks to Nissan employees and the Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
McAdoo, along with her brother and four children, received the keys to their new home that has plenty of bedrooms.
“I have always dreamed of providing a home for my family that we would feel comfortable inviting company to and now we have it,” said McAdoo. “It has been touching to see Nissan employees, who don’t even know me, help me build this house. I am forever grateful.”
Approximately 200 Nissan employees donated their time and energy working Saturdays over a two-month period to build the home for the McAdoo family.
“What gives Habitat for Humanity a special place in our hearts is that it not only enriches the lives of the new homeowners, but that it also so richly blesses the lives of all of us who get to play a small role in making a dream come true,” said Susan Brennan, vice president of Manufacturing for Nissan in Tennessee.
The McAdoo’s will move into their new home sometime over the next few weeks and will enjoy the advantages of owning an ENERGY STAR® certified house. ENERGY STAR® is a building program that ensures a newly constructed home uses less energy and protects resources. To earn the ENERGY STAR®, a home must meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15 percent more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC), and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20 percent to 30 percent more efficient than standard homes.
The McAdoo’s home features eco-friendly amenities such as low-flow faucets and showerheads, programmable thermostats, energy-efficient compact fluorescent lighting and carpeting made with recycled materials. These features align with Nissan’s Green Program 2010 initiative to reduce its impact on the environment and with Nissan and the Rutherford County Habitat affiliate’s commitment to the ENERGY STAR® program.
“We are proud of this home and are grateful to the Nissan team for their commitment to this project,” said Roy Saylor, construction manager for Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity.
The home is part of a $1 million partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and Nissan North America. The partnership includes house sponsorships, Nissan vehicle donations and support of Habitat’s disaster-relief initiatives.
“We are thrilled to be working with Nissan North America on the sponsorship of their third home in as many years in Rutherford County,” said Beth Smith, executive director of Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity. “Nissan is a very important part of our community here in Rutherford County and they are very active in supporting many organizations.
“We appreciate their support of Habitat for Humanity both locally and nationally,” she added. “The impact they have made on the lives of these three local families will be a gift that will positively shape the lives of the parents and their children for years to come.”
