New Frontiers plans BBQ battle

New Frontiers, a non-profit for at risk teen boys, announces their first annual BBQ Battle and Family Fun Day on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Barfield Park in Murfreesboro.

The event begins at 8 a.m. with the BBQ Battle 5k Run with special guest Kim Bindel of 94FM The FISH Morning Show starting off runners. Events continues throughout the day until 4 p.m. with the BBQ Battle Backyard BBQ Contest, Kids Q Contest, Hobo Cook off, Hot Rod Cruise In, family fun and games and music and crafts. Admission is free into the park, fees do apply to participate in the 5K Run, BBQ Battle, Hobo Cook off and Kids Q Contest. Applications are available at www.bbqbattle.org

The BBQ Battle Backyard BBQ will begin at 10 a.m. for teams of BBQ-ers, with judging occurring shortly after noon. During the day, local youth groups will compete against each other in the Hobo Cook-off, as will local pastors. For the Kids Q, groups of kids will compete with others in their age group in 2 different food categories. Other activities, such as adventure games, music, crafts and the Cruise-in will go on throughout the day until 4 p.m.

Lori Nellist, one of the New Frontiers’ founders, said, “We are very excited about bringing awareness to the community about New Frontiers and providing a family friendly day at Barfield Park, with activities such as the BBQ Battle and Family Fun Day tailored to encourage families to participate together”.
