The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce's recently named president said the county is doing all of the right things in terms of economic development.

The county, just like the rest of the nation, is just facing a down economy, Paul Latture III said in a phone interview with The Murfreesboro Post from his Jackson office.

"Rutherford County is well positioned to take advantage of companies that are looking to establish new operations in the area," he said.

Latture has served as president and chief executive officer for the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce since 2002. Prior, he served as executive vice president for economic development for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Industrial Development Board and served as director of membership and governmental affairs for the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce.

Latture said the wanted the job as president of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce because of the county's "progressiveness."

He said he has "watched Rutherford County transform itself into a retail center" and it "continues to be a manufacturing center." MTSU also is a strong economic development generator for the county.

The first item on Latture's agenda when he takes the position August 10 will be "to
listen to some folks, listen to some of the the key stakeholders" to see what their vision is for the county and what role the Chamber can play, Latture said.

The Chamber needs to assess what it is doing and what it needs to be doing to attract jobs and capital investments, he said.

I wonder what he would have thought of his team's idiotic support of the Bible Park scam? That was an embarassment to RuCo that will take years for the Chamber to live down.
