Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce's new president, Paul Latture, officially started his new position today.

"I am very excited to be here," Latture said from his new office. "Rutherford County is a tremendous place to live and work."

Latture said he is honored to working with the Chamber's great staff and carrying out the Chamber's mission.

His first day has been filled with internal meetings and the grand opening of the InterMetro facility off Joe B. Jackson Parkway.

Latture has served as president and chief executive officer for the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce since 2002. Prior, he served as executive vice president for economic development for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Industrial Development Board and served as director of membership and governmental affairs for the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce.

Latture said the first item on his agenda as president is to listen to the community stakeholders and find out what is important to them and what the Chamber needs to be working on in terms of economic development and the other services offered by the Chamber.

"I am going to do a lot of listening," he said.

As Chamber president, he will be at the forefront of the Chamber's economic development efforts, Latture said, but also making sure that the Chamber provides the best services to members and stakeholders.

His immediate attention is on the Chamber's bid to host the 2010 and 2011 Spring Fling high school tournaments. The Chamber will present its bid to the TSSAA Aug. 17.

Latture said the Chamber will present a "very competitive" bid.
