Sue Nevar has led the Blue Raider softball program since 2008.
Middle Tennessee softball coach Sue Nevar was honored this past weekend at Indiana University as a recipient of the Leanne L. Grotke Award.

Presented by the Indiana University I Association, the award is given to “women who, as alumnae, have made outstanding contributions to Indiana University through service to its athletics programs.” Grotke, known for her commitment to character and excellence, was Indiana’s first female associate athletic director.

“Leanne Grotke played a pivotal role in developing women’s sports into what we know them as today,” said Nevar. “I am truly honored and humbled to have received this award.”

Nevar, a native of Fairlawn, Ohio, was a four-time letterwinner in both softball and volleyball at Indiana. She coached at Texas A&M, Ohio State and Kent State prior to coming to Middle Tennessee in 2008.

The Class of 2011 award recipients gathered for a ceremony on Friday night in which they were presented their awards. The four-member class was also recognized at halftime of Indiana’s football game against Virginia on Saturday.

Since being established in 2008, 15 women have been honored with the prestigious award.
