Neighborhood crime spree ends with arrest

Donovan Callahan
Multiple charges were filed against a suspect accused of conducting a neighborhood crime spree while intoxicated Saturday on Rocky Fork Road near Smyrna, sheriff’s deputies reported.

Suspect Donovan George Callahan, 19, of Rocky Fork Road, was accused of stealing about $2,100 worth of property from neighbor John Giansante and a handgun from neighbor Debbie Gentry, Deputy Nathan Devers reported. Callahan allegedly cut the seats in Giansante’s 1975 MG Midget car.

Callahan allegedly used a headlamp taken from Giansante and the handgun from Gentry in an assault against neighbor Prentis Richardson, who heard someone trying to break into his garage, the deputy reported.

“The subject pointed a small-framed dark colored handgun at Mr. Richardson and told him to back up,” Devers reported. “Mr. Richardson stated that the subject had a light on his head similar to a miner’s light.”

Richardson called the sheriff’s office after the man beat on his door.

Deputy Steven Craig reported victim Kerri Wates of Manor Place in Smyrna reported someone stole her Oldsmobile parked at her parents’ home on Rocky Fork Road. The suspect wore a lamp on his forehead.

Deputies found the abandoned car on Lee Road with an unloaded handgun on the floor. They tracked the suspect into a wooded area and Gossett Drive where they ordered him to the ground.

Callahan smelled of alcohol, deputies reported. They recovered from him a small bag of marijuana, a ski mask, headlamp, mismatched gloves, an iPod and knives. They charged him with public intoxication, possession of marijuana, theft of a car, reckless endangerment and two counts of vandalism.

He was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where he is being held. A hearing is pending in General Sessions Court.

Devers reported Callahan’s parents returned Giansante’s property to him.
