National Guard teams headed back to Haiti
Refugees pack the interior of a Tennessee National Guard C-130 aircraft
on its return trip from Haiti on January 19 after delivering much-needed
supplies there. Two Air Guard planes made the trip, bringing back more
than 100 Haitians to Homestead Air Reserve Station, Florida.

A Tennessee Air National Guard team of 30 personnel departs for Haiti today for a period of three to four months. A second, 10-man team is to leave Thursday for 30 days.

The first team will consist of 24 Airmen from Nashville’s 118th Airlift Wing Civil Engineering Squadron, and six Airmen from Knoxville’s 134th Air Refueling Wing Civil Engineering Squadron.

The second will be Airmen out of the 118th’s Aero Medical Evacuation Squadron in Nashville. Both teams are to depart by commercial aircraft, traveling first to Charleston, S.C., then on to Haiti.

The National Guard engineers will construct disaster relief facilities at the airport in Haiti, plus two additional “tent cities.” They will also be tasked with making repairs to the airport pavements.
