| Three men and two juveniles were arrested after a car chase ended on Bilbro Avenue in the early hours of Monday morning.
Quinteshen Jujaun Woods, 19, of Bentley Street, Thomas James Mitchell, 20, of South Bilbro Avenue, and John Robert Leach III, 19, of Minor Street, were arrested, along with two juveniles after they allegedly opened fire in a Waffle House on Nashville’s Nolensville Road and returned to Rutherford County.
According to WSMV, Nashville Metro Police said a white GMC Envoy pulled into the restaurant’s parking lot at about 3 a.m.
“Someone in the car got into a verbal fight with someone in the parking lot. During the yelling match, someone in the car shot about 15 rounds into the packed restaurant and parking lot,” WSMV reported, striking one person in the leg.
The group of men fled the scene and were traveling eastbound on Interstate 24, near the New Salem Road exit, when they were spotted by a Murfreesboro Police Officer Allen Cox.
When the officer attempted to pull them over on the New Salem off ramp, the driver accelerated, running a red light at New Salem and Middle Tennessee Boulevard.
The officer then chased the car, which fired shots at MPD Sgt. Mike Turner as he passed it on Bilbro Avenue.
“The vehicle proceeded through the stop sign at Bilbro and East Main Street,” Cox reported. “I attempted to stop, but was unable to … and struck the suspect vehicle spinning it out of control, causing it to crash.”
Woods fled on foot, but was caught moments later by MPD Officer Timothy Harris.
During a search of the car, officers found three handguns and cocaine in the car.
Woods, Leach and Mitchell were arrested for evading arrest, possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment and possession of drugs. They are scheduled to appear in court May 19.
