Murfreesboro is on its way to getting a Visitors’ Center and new home for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.
City Manager Roger Haley will update Murfreesboro City Council on the progress of the new building, slated to open in fall 2010 west of Greshampark Drive on Medical Center Parkway.
“The new visitors’ center will also provide a first-class facility to welcome our visitors and help increase the positive economic impact of tourism in Rutherford County,” Haley said in a letter to the city council.
The building will be three floors, with a visitors’ center and convention bureau on the first floor, and Chamber of Commerce offices, MTSU’s Small Business Development Center and expansion space on the second and third floors.
The center cost an estimated $6.9 million, paid for in part by a $3.3 million Tennessee Department of Transportation grant to the city and a $2 million grant for the Chamber portion.
Other council business: - The council will discuss its course of action to replace City Manager Roger Haley at the end of the meeting.
- Consider for passage on third and final reading ORDINANCE 09-OZ-04 to rezone an area along Rushwood Drive and South Church Street to OG.
- Consider recommendations of the Planning Commission to schedule public hearings for an annexation/zoning request along Halls Hill Pike/Twin Oak Drive and amendments to Sign Ordinance for height restrictions on attached signage and standardizing minimum feet required between attached and detached signage and nearby residential uses to 200 feet and changeable copy signs.
