City taxes for 2012 are now delinquent and a penalty of 1.5 percent will be added each month until they are paid, according to an official with the Murfreesboro Finance, Tax and Records Department.

For those interested in paying a balance that is due through partial payments, call Murfreesboro’s tax department at 615-893-5210 for details, said Melissa Wright, city recorder and director of the Finance Department.

Delinquent 2011 real property taxes are now being readied to send to Rutherford Chancery Court in March, she added.

“If you are not sure if your property taxes have been paid, please check the city of Murfreesboro website, www.murfreesborotn.gov, to look them up at your convenience,” Wright said. “If you call our office, our staff can also look them up for you.”

Payments may be made by cash, check or money order.

However, she said, credit or debit cards are not currently being accepted.

Payments made by mail should be made payable to the Murfreesboro and mailed to: P.O. Box 1139, Murfreesboro, Tenn., 37133-1139.

Payments made in person are to be made from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Finance Department, located in City Hall at 111 W. Vine St.

Wright said each tax notice has a five-digit receipt number located in the top left. This number should be written on all checks or money orders, she said.

"Don’t forget to sign your check,” she said.
