AYP results provide some information on student performance in schools, but Tennessee offers a more interesting measure, one that allows you to see how schools are contributing to student learning: value-added performance. Value-added scores show how effective a school is at boosting the achievement level of all students, regardless of their demographic or economic characteristics. You can learn more, and see comparisons of schools on value-added performance, at www.education-consumers.org/tnproject/tnabout.htm ; you can also see a map of Tennessee indicating schools’ performance in terms of growth and achievement at www.education-consumers.org/tnmap/default.html.
